On the face of it this is a good thing, but I’m not yet convinced that this will make Klout more accurate. Thinking about Forrester’s Social Technographic ladder it will be the ‘Creators’ who are most active on these new networks, but how many of the ‘Joiners’ and ‘Spectators’ are going to be avid consumers of these more niche social networks? Instagram isn’t even widely available, being restricted to iPhone users and there missing out the millions of Android and Windows Phone 7 users. My worry is that it will skew the higher Klout scores to those who live within the social media bubble and therefore make it far less useful to public relations and corporate communications people.
UPDATE: Appears that I’m not the only sceptical about Klout adding new networks. Most of the comments on the Mashable story are negative. The point about personal blogs is also an important one. The most influential people online are more likely to have self-hosted blogs rather than WordPress.com or Blogger, but those are the only ones that will be measured.
