Yorkshire is blogging capital of UK

More than a quarter of UK internet users now write an online blog, according to the Blogging Britain research report commissioned by MSN Spaces.

And Yorkshire is the blogging capital of the UK, with more than a third (35%) of internet users blogging. In Wales just 16% of internet users blog.

People use their blogs in a variety of ways and write about a wide variety of topics including:

  • 59% online diary
  • 28% hobbies
  • 17% travel
  • 12% news and world events
  • 6% to campaign about a political issue that is important to them
  • 18% to express views on topics they are passionate about
  • A fifth blog to make their voice heard

Via Manchester Evening News (given the traditional cross Pennine rivalry it was a bizarre way to discover that Yorkshire trumps the North West).

  1. So Stuart any idea as to why Yorkshire tops this poll? Is it a cultural thing i.e. more willing and open to share views/opinions?
